I have been coming to this site since the age of 12 years old in 1998. I have learned a LOT of great knowledge from a lot of GREAT people. I think we have always had the people who 'know all' or belittle... I also think that with the invention and exploitation of social media, it has turned into something of epidemic levels. Everyone knows everything behind a keyboard, away from the task at hand...

I don't have all the best tools (or even all the tools), nor do I have all the knowledge. I am constantly learning, picking up tips, and the occasional tool when I can afford it. I have a YouTube channel dedicated to repairing and fixing old tractors in the manners that I can get by with. (It is actually turning out to be a pretty successful channel). I don't do it for the haters, the know it alls, or the ones who simply enjoy making others feel bad about trying to do something constructive that they enjoy. I do it to show others that you DON'T need all of the fancy stuff to work on these tractors, to enjoy the hobby, and to learn.

That's part of the process - turning wrenches and learning HOW stuff works. I never grew up on a farm, city suburbs as a matter of fact. My grandpa had two tractors in the woods and that is how I got started. I get countless thanks from people who watch my videos because I keep it as real as I can. I show my mistakes, what I learned, how I make a tool that works, what worked for me (although it may not be correct). I am working on a Farmall H restoration now to raise awareness for suicide and mental health (I have posted about it several times on here). A link is below if you would like to check it out.

Bottom line - I got to where I am in the hobby not by acknowledging the negative displayed by the haters... But by considering their positive points. Most of it though, is thanks to generous people on this forum and now on the Facebook groups dedicated to old tractors. Talk about haters - go to those groups and it seems people are polarized on either one end of the spectrum. Helpful, or hateful. Oh - and then there are those who tell you to "keep them inside or don't own them"... Boy, if I had a dollar for every time I heard that.

Anyways... Don't pay attention to the negative. Stick with the positive and keep on wrenchin'. It's all about preservation, passing it on, and having a little fun while spending a little money. Hey - there are worse things, right?

Today's Featured Article - An Old-Time Tractor Demonstration - by Kim Pratt. Sam was born in rural Kansas in 1926. His dad was a hard-working farmer and the children worked hard everyday to help ends meet. In the rural area he grew up in, the highlight of the week was Saturday when many people took a break from their work to go to town. It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer. It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership, ... [Read Article]
