Hi, I will assume this is not a swing auger. Is the bearing you are referring to up at the top gearbox, I believe it is a 4 bolt pillow block or flangette bearing.There should not be any side pressure on that bearing. Where are you located. It could be the way it was set-up.We sale a lot these Westfield augers and have never had that issue.
