My, or more correctly, DAD'S '51 Farmall M has NEVER had Carl in the rear tires, it wore 2 sets of wheel weights a lot of years, and at 71 years old those rear rims look like they will last another 71 years. The tractor has been repainted at least 3 times, an IH dealer did the first repaint and engine overhaul sometime in the mid to late 1950's, it got 4 high altitude sleeves & pistons, it pulled more HP than the SM-TA did about spring of 1963. FFA kids did repaint #2 about spring 1964 or '65. Nice work! And a neighbor did repaint #3 about 2005. He did quite a few repaints, he had at least two quality levels, a $2000 looks good from over 20 feet away, and a $3000+ Looks good up close at a show. Dad didn't want to pay more for a repaint than he paid for the tractor brand new. Anyhow, I had a flat tire on my '54 Super H about 2006 or '07. I removed the rear rims, had a local farm tire shop remove the tires, sand blasted and primed & painted the rims both sides, they need a thicker brushed on coat of Rustolium, some small areas of rust popping up. Anyhow, the rims on the '51 M still look great! The SH had Carl from early in it's history, I had it removed and new tubes installed, and the rims on the M will still last decades longer than the SH rims.
