What is being forgotten id pressure rating of cylinder and of tractor.. Unless it is a newer lift cylinder it is probably a low pressure cylinder while your tractor is a high pressure rated hydrolics and could blow out side of cylinder and drop bed fast with you cought under it. So ask yourself is it proper rated for your tractor before trying to use it. I have had standard implement cylinders that were split lengthwise down side. Got that way but being the model cylinder it would work on a atique machinery static display. I am sure that cylinder was only rated for a John Deere A or B tractor and the owner that had passed away blew the side hooking to the 6000 fords he had. And they would have been low pressure to todays tractors. Just be safe and make sure cylinder can handle your pressure.
