Bob, thanks for the info. I may understand what needs to be done, but have never done it so I have no hands on knowledge of what a good contact pattern looks like. Also my first problem is how to set the pinion depth? My trans case is a solid rectangle with the only access point the very rear behind a cover. Looking in the case is like looking down a tunnel, with the pinion face facing towards me at the end of the tunnel. The shop manual shows a tool that slides into the carrier quills, giving a reference for the axle centerline and then shows putting a feeler guage in from the top as if the whole top of the trans case comes off to allow a view from above. No such luck, the top doesnt come off. Any idea on how to do this?
