Perkins (model 4.248)4 cylinder diesel made in 1994 and remanufactured by EPS (Huge remanufacturer in Charlotte, NC) in 1999, 1,200 hours on it since remanufacture (it's in a CAT forklift). Smoke is not even visible against a blue sky but can be seen with trees or building in background. White in color I suppose. I wouldn't even bother with it except that I store the lift inside, and even stopping it near the garage door with the exhaust pipe aimed toward the outside, sometimes enough smoke accumulates to burn my eyes and stink up the place a bit. Would the official Perkins manual have such suggestions do you think ? Also, any farm tractors have a similar Perkins such that I should post this under another forum ? Btw, the CAT dealer (not where I bought it) says it's "supposed" to smoke...could be, but sure would be nice to minimize it.
