Hydraulic Question.

How can I tell if a control valve is a "pressure beyond valve"?? I have an IHC B-414 that someone added a loader to it and the hrydraulics are kind of just put on in a hurry. The way its plumbed now, I can only run the loader OR the 3 point depending on where the quick disconnects are connected. Not both. The supply line to the valve comes from an aux port in front of the seat. The return line from the control valve now goes to the fill hole at the rear of the tractor. I had some advice as to put on a pressure beyond valve in series with the high pressure line from the pump. Any body have a similar set up? I don't wish to blow my self up or break the pump 'pokin and hopin'. Thanks
