Trailer safety

In 1979, I built a heavy tandem multipurpose trailer. My own design. Hauled 9 tons on it pulling it with farm tractor. Still in good shape, but load bed is higher than most and loading/unloading tractors and Bobcat is a bit unnerving. Couple of minor accidents with no injury or damage. At nearby tractor show, rain shower late in the day after I left and one fellow was loading his tractor. Wet boards and the tractor slipped off the side of the trailer. Really tore up one of his hands-first thought it was lost, but now has been saved but expect only 20% function. Saw a new fancy tilt bed 16' 5 ton trailer for $5K at the Bobcat dealer. Very low bed height and when tilted (or not), there is hydraulic cylinder to hold it there in addition to latches. In 1979, I would not have had a trailer except to build it and I realize that others have the same financial situation as I had then. But this accident has me thinking that the $5K looks very much like a bargain compared to the potential for injury. After 1979, my children all finished the BA, MS. etc and now I could find the money if needed. Seriously thinking about getting that trailer.
