Larry Ks is correct, On a Delco 10 SI internal regulator alternator,the indicator light must be the 2 wire ungrounded variety. One light wire must be connected to the same ign switch terminal as the coil so it only has power when the ign is on,otherwise the battery will be discharged while the tractor is not running. The other light wire must go to the exciter (#1 on the alt case) terminal in the alternator plug. The other alt plug wire(#2 on the alt case) must connect to the BAT stud on the alternator rear so the regulator can function correctly.
The small wattage light connected in the #1 exciter wire does two jobs,1 it excites the alternator and indicates if the alternator is not charging, 2 it prevents enough power flowback from the alternator to the ign coil to to keep the engine running when the ign switch is turned off.
