Sounds like a fuel problem.Check vent on gas cap keep checking screen in fuel bowl.If any of these work great . If possible as the engine is dying try to give it a wiff of happy gas,if it's a fuel problem this will do he same thing as the choke trick ,if not look elsewhere.DON'T try to keep engine running with ether,it could get expensive.If it still seems to be fuel problem flush gas tank and always use clean gas and if you use gas cans,make sure they are clean. If any of these work you are headed in the right direction,if not start checking electrical components,coil,condenser and points.Good Luck.
