OT-- Beef cattle question

Ok I know this is not related to tractors, but this is where all the guys in the know hang out.
I would like a est of how many acres of pasture you need for 1 beef steer. Herfords I would guess, the ones with the red with the white face.
Also if you were too feed hay over the winter.
How many 50 pound square bales of hay would you need?
I might be buying some land that I can hay and graze a bit. so just thinkin.
