you have asked some interesting questions,that first need some input from you. 1.where are you located 2.what is your average rainfall 3.how much tonnage does your pasture produce. 4. what is the beginning weight of the animal. here in se new mexico we average around 12 inches of rainfall{usually to late}and can graze about 10 to 30 cows per section of pasture{640 acres}when we pasture on winter irrigated wheat we stock at about 600 lbs.per acre going in weight.they will be on the wheat for about 120 days.with good luck they will put on about 2 lbs per day.I dont remember the conversion rate on beef,which you should be able to find out,but if it is 5 to 1 then it would take 5 lbs of hay to gain 1 lb. so if you wanted 2 lbs gain you would feed 10 lbs of hay.you should also feed a supplement such as grain or cake and free choice salt and mineral
