can you help me identify a part?

Hello! I am jumping in on your discussion forum in hopes of a bit of help from some experts! I am an archaeologist trying desperately to identify an old metal piece of agricultural equipment. I know almost nothing about it, but am having no luck in catalogs and feel as though someone with more expertise might be able to identify it immediately. It has about a 30 cm long shaft and symmetrical off-set ends (at about 45degree angles from the shaft)that are 3 cm long and shped like a rounded diamond. thse ends have holes in them , and I am guessing once were attached to something else through them. Someone suggested that it might have served as some sort of brace, but I have no idea. Because the soil this came from has been plowed heavily, I also can not be sure of a date for this piece, but agricultural activity took place in the field between the late 1800's and the 1940's. I would be thrilled if naybody had any suggestion whatsoever as to what this might be, thank you so uch for your time!!
