We've worked out bushhog for years and years with bad seals. Like the others said pump it up with grease, top that with 90w or 90w140. You've got to have some oil or the grease can cavitate before it gets warm and liquid. In the spring I usually fill up with used motor oil for the first hour, it flushes any crud out, leaves the gears real pretty and clean.
