Why do my tractor batterys keep blowing up?

I have a Ford 3910 that today the battery blew up when I cranked it,earlier today the battery was dead and had to charge it up since it had been setting up all winter. Run it awhile and went back to crank it and the battery blew up,fortunately the hood was down. This happened on the same tractor about 2 years ago in the hay field. What causes this? I need to find out so I can correct the problem. Thanks
