I agree with John H. Also you need to change your lights to 12 volt and you need a resistor on the feed to the points. A GM alternator will work, but you have to flip the old bracket upside down and grind a small piece out of it near the front end. This will allow the alternator to lay against the valve cover pan and the old belt will still work. I have done it several times.
