Some U.S. "big name" companies sold the off-brand stuff. John Deere sold a lot of Yanmar tractors, and they are very reliable. 850, 950, and 1050s are Yanmar painted green with John Deere lettering on them. We sold them when they first came out back in the mid- 70s. International Harvester sold many Mahindra tractors back in the 60s, like the B-275 or the B-414. Was called a "joint-venture." Today, Mahindra is selling tractors under their own name. Some of these trators are absoltely excellent. And, some of the gray-market stuff is crap - especially some of the Chinese stuff I've seen lately.

Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation.
