OT - '96 Volvo 850 ??

We have the above car (non-turbo) for about 6
months. 71,000 miles. The Service
Reminder light came on. Stays on for 2
minutes - goes off - just like the manual says.
The Volvo garage says only they can turn the
light off, and that it needs a new timing belt. If
the belt breaks, it's bad news for the valves. Comments? Any web site which would help me with this
car?
