The other side to that. If the shop rate is $85 and the worker is getting $30 who is getting the other $50? It's not the worker who should have trouble sleeping. Look around, it's the owners, whether they be stockholders or sole owners who are getting the biggest piece of the pie. I will say at this point that there are some companies that do right but the vast majority don't. By the government's calculations the poverty level for a family of 4 is about $20,000 so a person working 40hrs/week and 52 weeks a year needs to make $10 just to be above that. The minimum wage should be high enough to get you above poverty. Also I don't agree with everything unions do even though I am a member of one, if it weren't for unions we would all be making just enough to stay alive. It's a verified fact that unions bring everyone's wages up whether they are union or not.
