I think it's in the manifold, but the sweetest sound at any tractor show is that of a 460 Farmall. A 460 fires up & ears just turn to it. Next is a 4010 JD when increasing in rpm-real throaty & better sounding than a 4020; again likely in the manifold; A wd-45's bark with open govenor is special & snappy; A late John Deere A at low rpm is a treat-I think it has a lighter flywheel than say a 60 and because of that the A will fire once like with govenor & hold back about two strokes (kind of a bump cha-cha bump cha-cha); should lower blood pressure; A 400 Farmall with stanley straight-thru muffler is a hearty sound and the 400 or a Moline UB has a special sound when shut down. The correct length straight pipe on a WD-45 is music. A 3-cyl Ford 4000 gas is a unique sound. How about wolfy's five piece band: An A, a 45, a 460, a 400, a 4000.
