FWIW, I have a 40' X 120" pole barn machine shed that was built in the fall of 1961. The poles are on 8' centers, the truss rafters are on 4' centers, and the 2 X 4 nailers that run the length of the roof are on 2' centers. It has survived quite a few prairie storms in 44 years!
