Sounds like you got a worn spot on the flywheel ring gear. If your very lucky,you may be able to use a die grinder with a pine cone carbide bit to reshape the worn/flattned teeth through the starter opening in the bellhousing. If not, you will need to remove the ring gear to replace/flip over or reposition the ring gear. Most engines stop in just a few positions because of engine compression, which wear those spots where the starter always engages and cause this ring gear problem.
