Couple of thoughts. Not too very long ago most people in America lived on farms or worked in direst support of agriculture. That is not true today. We lament the disapearance of the family farm but resent the people who want to recapture the joys of living in the country. When we want to buy land we complain about the high cost but when we want to sell, well, that is another matter. The fact is, most farmland transactions are between farmers. Unless you live near a city, sales to yuppies and developers are rare. We don't care much for city life and city folks but when we are sick we want a good hospital and we don't want to go very far. When we need a part for our car we go to town because the local guy wants too much. We don't want an Interstate cutting across our bit of paradise but we want an on ramp nearby (so we can get out and get right back). Finally, there is the issue of old tractors, the reason this site exists. For the most part, working farmers don't keep the old girls going. Mostly, it is the guy with a couple of acres and a shed and a strong link to the days when life was simple (they say) down on the farm. I think there is room enough for all of us in the country, rich poor, farmer or not.
