Four farms around me sold in the last year and a half. Each time I dealt with the owners directly. Each time the farm was sold to an out of towner, whose offer came in so much higher that the owner would have been stupid not to take it. Each one of the farms looks like crap now. These people have asked advice, and I've given, but then they go of and do stupid things on they're own. One guy couldn't sell his crop, so he begged the processor to buy it at a fraction of the cost. That's okay for him, He and his wife have city jobs. Now the prices have dropped, How does that benefit those of us who rely on farnm income? Another guy bought $90,000 worth of new equipment for a 17 acre farm, and it's the worst place you'll ever see. In fact so many of these people are buying new equipment with there city-job money that the dealers around here don't even want to talk to an established farmer. So to contradict your statement, most of the farmers I know use older equipment, myself included. 90% of the farm folk I know enjoy the fact that the city is a fare drive away. It's when these out siders come in do we get these mini-malls and development. And if someone needs help, forget it! The city people bring a certain mentallity to the country. Ask a farmer for help, and he'll drop what he's doing, ask a city person for help, and it's a lost cause. They're too busy, or it's not they're problem, I've heard it all.
