Dial up will not do streaming video very well if at all.

Honestly, I wouldn't waste your money on that XPS stuff. Any old thing (even last years model) will blow your mind if you're coming from a 300mhz machine.

I am stuck like you on dial up (or Satelite). My guess is that WiMax (Wide Area WiFi) will be available before DSL or Cable in my area.
