This problem is due to a tank selection switch/valve(from what I've been told by others having same problem). Air gets into the system. A fix at this point in the age of the vehicle would wind up with new fuel lines to both tanks. Not in the mood will do though next time I replace brake lines. Symptoms are hard starting, won't stay running, blows smoke all kinds of colors. Bring tanks to halfway mark all is well.
