honda 300 fourtrax

Let me start by saying I know this is a tractor forum-but there is a lot of knowledge out there and I would like to pick a few brains. With that being said my 99 honda will not start I replaced the battery-I had to charge it before I placed it on the atv. I have an ampmeter that shows the battery over 12.4 when under load for starting. It is making a noise when I try to start it ( a clicking noise from near the battery) Any ideas-my next guess is the sloenoid-How does one check to see if it is operational. Thanks PS does anybody know of any good atv forums
