To validate one point, I reviewed the engine block and there is another machined hole for the mag to mount closer to the mag drive. Just as you said, it would just be a mater of removing the pump and scooting the mag over.
I would still like to explore the repair of the pump. I like the concept that it was an add on feature.
I am a fan of thermal syphon systems as I have that set up on two of my cub lo boys.
I am thinking I may need to take a few more close up photographs of the coupler between the mag drive and the pump as that will eventually need discounnected.
If you advise that no harm will result from removing the drive flange, I think that would be the next best step as then I could work on it on the bench as opposed to mounted on the engine.
Separarate question, would you happen to know the approximate year of the engine?
