I have been collecting winchester lever guns for years and I have not found a dealer yet that will tell you the truth. The reason is that they are always looking to buy them as the market varies by region. I know what things go for in my area of New Mexico. Pre-1964 winchesters usually go from $400 to as high as your imagination can bare. Post 64s go usually around 400 and post 1971"s will bring from 250 to 400 depending on condition. Your rifle is a commemorative though and the value of them is a little different. John Wayne rifles are bringing top dollar; even more if unfired. Others are only about 600 to 1200 depending if they haven"t been fired and the condition of the box. Last year, I bought a Chief Crazy Horse commemorative that came out in 1983 because it was chambered in 38-55. I bought it brand new in the box for $600. The blue book valued it at $700 unfired or 600 used. It is one of the commemoratives that did not take off. Being that it doesn"t matter a great deal in value difference, I shoot it as I would any good used gun. The way collectors define unfired is simply if the lever has ever been operated. That is why winchester puts a big plastic strap on the lever around the reciever so that you can"t open the lever. Personaly, I am glad I cut the strap and opened the lever on mine as it had a lot of condensation rust from years of storage. It makes me wonder about those many rifles that have never been opened and what condition the insides are in. My advice to you is that you use your rifle as you would any other good rifle and have fun with it.

Today's Featured Article - The 8N and the Fox - by Zane Sherman. Dec. 13 1998, Renfroe, Alabama. Last niht I dreamed about the day that I plowed the field of about 10 acres over on what Jimmy and Dandy called the Ledbetter field. I was driving the 1948 8N Ford tractor that Jimmy bought in 48 new This was prebably in about 1951 and maybe even befor the house was built. This would have made me to be about16 years old and I drove the tractor for nothing and would have paid to drive it if I had had any money which I didn't, but neit ... [Read Article]
