Old, we are working with 12v Stewart Warner resistance gauge movements & senders. They are not polarity sensitive, there is no positive or negative. Makes no difference if the tractor is wired pos or neg ground.
The gauge movement is grounded to the gauge board, the gaugeboard to the sheet metal completing the power coil circuit to the tractor frame. That provides a constant magnetic flux at the power coil pole.
The sender coil is grounded at the threads on the temp sender and the flange screws on the gas sender completing the sender coil circuit. The senders are varible resistors so the current in the sender coil and thus the magnetic field strength at the sender coil pole varies to move the pointer pole one way or the other.
All you need to do is have a switched 12v power source to the power terminal (right) and the sender connected to the sender terminal (left). Make sure the gaugeboard, gas sender flange, and temp sender threads are well grounded to the tractor frame.
