Best advice I can give - never by an automatic 4 wheel drive. My 96 chevy 2500 is an automatic with 4 wheel drive. Its TOTALLY USELESS. The 4wd won"t engage unless it detects slippage. This weekend at the farm I got stuck in 3 inches of soft ground. Tires were spinning, but 4wd would not engage. If tires are spinning isn"t that slippage? Tried rocking back & forth, but wouldn"t budge. I know better than to keep trying and bury the thing down to the axles. Hubby pulled me out with the tractor. He got to see only the 2nd full blown temper tantrum I"ve had in our 20 yrs marriage. I yelled at that worthless piece of junk and planted more than one footprint on the bumper. Yes, the 4wd engaging problem can be remedied by $200 direct linkage at the mechanic"s, but I"m not sinking one more dime into this piece of junk. I bought it used in Nov. of 2000 and have spent over $5,000 in repairs. WORTHLESS PIECE OF JUNK. Its a true Cowboy Cadillac. If all you"re going to do is look cute and run up and down the highway, its fine. But if you need it to do some real work, forget it!

I soon found that it would be very useful to have a tractor around the place for things such as grading our long drive and brush-hogging the fields. I was also embarking on planting 1000 eucalyptus trees, and hence I would need a ripper, small disk plow, sprayer etc. to get these things accompli
