Well I can't think of any off the top of my head that used an ampmeter and an alt ? Likely were some, but also likely they were rated for the proper amps. well above what the old gen. system was equipped with.
When working at the gen. repair shop when these fellows did these 6 to 12 conversions they always complained about their ampmeters show charge all the time and they also bounce around. A voltmeter will cure it.
