Mike, it should show some continuity (more with the points closed). If it didn't there wouldn't be a circuit to complete to shut it down. To test it, put a piece of wire (paper clip will work) in one of the plug wire terminals, then bend it to within 1/8" of the metal body, then spin it (the impulse should trip) it should have a blue spark. Do the same for all the plug wire terminals. Make sure the impulse is tripping, if it isn't you probably have found your problem. If it trips ok & still no spark clean & gap the points. If still no spark check coil then check the rotor for magnetism. Post back if still no spark.
