Well, I"ve never had a serious injury, other than messing up a knee thru sheer stupidity, but being 77+, and having to stop and pant sometimes in the crummy 2+ blocks to the mailbox, I"ve learned to: Concentrate on what I CAN do, not what I did 20 yrs ago or should do... Injuries, serious injuries, require facing the fact that you can"t scamper around like you used to, but no one"s going to look down on you as long as you do what you can, and make the best of it... Look objectively at what"s really important, and don"t sweat the unimportant... Hopefully the new Administration will fire up the VA to do a better job for you guys; you deserve the best care available. Best wishes.
