Anyone know the correct way to jump start a 6volt 8N tractor from a 12volt vehicle

On an 8N can anyone tell me how to jump start a 6 volt possitive ground tractor to a 12 volt negative ground vehicle without putting the coil in danger of being burned up. For instance, if you unhook the starter solenoid from the starter and jump straight to the starter and ground to the frame somewhere, with the switch on will the coil be ok ? Any help appreciated Bill
