It does a great job in the looser soils, and rides over rocks as it pivots on the top. In the really tough sticky soils that are more of a slab when turned over, it doesn't do much at all.
The harrow came with the plow- I bought the plow back in '02 I think and it came from an area of the state that's much sandier. I'm sure those feilds didn't need much prep after the plow.
