Early original components did not have 6 volt markings on them. 12 volts had not been introduced and everthing was 6 volts and there was no need to mark the voltage. Aftermarket and replacement parts had the voltage marked on them after the introduction of 12 volts. On a distributor tractor if the charging system is installed correctly you could borrow the 12 volt battery from your vehicle and install it in the tractor and turn the switch to the run condition. The wire feeding from the coil to the distributor should have 6 volts on it or less with the points closed. If you have 12 volts on the wire it is a 6 volt system.
