Reading the posts about gas tanks etc, A post stated using gas for a fuse. This reminded me of around 1972 I lived very close to a HWY. In fact the grove shaded the HWY even. I decided to rake the pine needles, and junk from under the trees / ditch into a windrow along the edge of the HWY to make it easy to load in the manure bucket.
Then I got to thinking of a stream of gas on the wet pine needles could burn off a lot of the bulk, thus I would have less effort in picking the leaves etc up. So I put down a stream of diesel, and gas mix around 300 ft, then I made very small stream so I could use it as a fuse. a fuse. We lived on the only straight stretch for a long way. I told the neighbor kid to watch for cars, and I lit the fuse. The flame went about ten foot, and stopped. Along comes a HWY patrol man going a little faster than he should have been going . Just as he got ½ way thru th windrow, the whole windrow went into a lightning imitation . The cop locked up all four wheels and skidded to about ten ft in front of me making excellent eye contact. I knew this cop was not a nice guy from all reports so I just looked at him. He was the one that broke off the stare, backed up onto the HWY and then drove off with his head down. It wasn’t funny until the cop left, then the neighbor kid and I had a good laugh. From then on it wasn’t so much bother loading up all the junk after all.
I rip on the cops a lot, they are all my friends. At least I still call them friends even though they will not allow me to test drive their squad cars, or let me borrow their gun to shoot someone in the leg. So I guess we aren’t real friends anyway.
