I have a 510 John Deere Tractor with a 3 cylinder Diesel engine,tractor built in Germany. The engine had some blow by out the exit pipe for some time now prior to the loss of power problem below but it worked fine.
While ploughing the engine suddenly lost its power,no steam from the rad but black smoke poured out the stack. However,It contnued to run and I limped it back to the yard. I discovered the fan belt a bit loose.The oil was slightly higher on the stick might this indicate a blown head gasket? What other checks can I make to determine the problem here?
