Electric fence question.

I'm planning to build an electric fence around a bale lot. I'll be using a Par-Mak solar fencer. I'll be adding a gate at one end. I assume I'll have to run a "jumper" wire around the end post to carry the current from the fence to the gate section. Will merely wrapping the jumper wire around the hot wire numerous times allow it to adequately conduct the electricity and carry it over to the gate section? Will I need to solder the connection? Is it best to have the gate as a seperate section? Is there a better way to add a gate section? What is the best gauge of electric fence wire to use? Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
