When I do DOT safety inspections, any trailer that has "Screw link thingys" on the safety chains is an automatic failure. The reason is that they are not on the list of approved hooks or chain. The unmarked S hooks and unmarked chain are all assumed to be proof coil chain which has the lowest tensile strength of all types of chain.
