How funny it was to read your post....we rebuilt a 8N in 1990 and it didn`t come with a generator so we put on one of these Chrysler 2 pole generators that we had lying around it was a brand new unit we got somewhere, new not rebuilt..Also put in a new ammeter from a frieghtliner 12 volt truck (dont think 6 or 12 volt matters to an ammeter) anyways it does the same thing neddle bounces around wildly. The tractor charges fine and I never got around to fixing it, must be how its wired...have picked up a correct gen for the 8N so that will be the fix when this one gives up.....Big Mike
