I am putting injectors in a 1988 Ford f150 5.0 rats chewed the wiring up at the injectors. I liked to never got the injectors out they were stuck from rat pizz. Two intake to head bolts broke along with the lower thermo bolt. The heads on the intake bolts on one side were eroded away  I gave the intake a good dose of crushed red pepper hope it helps. It stunk so bad I washed the engine and gave it a good dose of vinegar the vin did take the stink away. I read you can get tape for rat issues.
My hall of fame rat issue was a Ford Bronco rats are squirrels would eat the plastic fuel line on top of the tank a few times a year. Why the bronco I dunno they never bothered anything else they owned they sold the bronco.
